4-H Camp 2014

How many times have we heard someone say: “Back then things were cheaper!”? Or “I remember when things didn’t cost so much!”? Well, here at the Edmonson County Extension Office, we are having a flash back to those times! This year, thanks to money raised from Farm License Plates, the Health Rocks program at South Edmonson and Kyrock, and several private donors, we are reducing the cost of 4-H summer camp to $75.00 per camper! (Camping age is 9-14 and some 15 year olds may go as camp councilors-in-training) That’s a savings of over $100.00 off of the regular cost! Now campers can enjoy the Olympic size swimming pool with diving board and slide, horse arena, nature and craft classes, shooting sports, fishing, and many other activities without breaking the bank. So start making plans for an exciting four days, June 3 – 6 in Dawson Springs, KY, at West Kentucky 4-H Camp!

 What is 4-H ?

4-H is the Youth Development component of Cooperative Extension.  CE extends the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture andKentucky State University to citizens throughout the commonwealth.  4-H strives to meet the four developmental needs which we all have—need for belonging, mastery of skills, independence, and generosity. 4-H teaches youth the basic skills they will need to succeed as adults. Youth are involved through individual self-study projects at home, organized clubs in communities and schools, special interest groups, camp, television, after-school child care programs, or as part of the school curriculum.

Remember to save your aluminum cans for 4-H.  4-H is collecting cans to raise money for our 4-H programs.  The money raise from the cans will help pay for things like camp, rally day and 4-H projects.  Cans can be dropped off at the Edmonson County Extension Office (behind the Health Department) on Highway 70.  Please call us at 597-3628 for any information about 4-H or any questions you might have.

We had a great turn out for Camp this year!  Here is the group before loading the bus.
